A Wii Rant

I keep waiting for the revival of the 2D platformer in the WiiWare section. It's coming, people! Just you wait and see!

Unfortunately we won't be able to find it, being buried in the latest shovelware releases involving motion-controlled party games with crappy animation...

What is your opinion on "Filler"

Cowboy Bebop: Spike teaches a (throw-away) guy a bit about fighting... who ends up getting shot because he's showing off.

That... wasn't filler. Or something that happened more than once. That was one episode, with one guy, as part of one plot.

Sorry, I didn't make my point clear; I agree, that episode wasn't really filler, and I enjoyed it. But I enjoyed it because it expanded on Spike's character. If it couldn't be justified outside of itself, in the context of the whole show, as anything besides pointless (even as just being a distinct, memorable, 'good' episode in the whole series), then I would have considered it filler.

In this sense I think my definition may be different than others, because I can consider a single episode filler. In contrast, the biggest example of television filler for me would be... season seven of the TV soap Dallas, where the whole thing is revealed to be a big dream sequence with little impact on the rest of the show. Even then, however, it reveals something about the character Pam.

So, my definition is pretty weak and loose; I have very general guidelines for what I consider filler, but I usually save the word for 'boring crap that stalls the resolution of the hanging plot for no good reason.'

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Currently playing Milon's DokuDoku Adventure, the original LoZ, and Super Metroid. Going retro like a pro... (until the Broken Steel DLC arrives on May 5!)

A Wii Rant

Well, I've been kind of disappointed with the Wii. To be fair, I feel Nintendo's released a lot of really good games over the last few years... but it's mostly Nintendo with a few outliers.

I was happy with MadWorld and I'm looking forward to Muramasa, the Conduit, and a few others, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for Nintendo's "triple-A" title for Christmas. Hopefully they'll just keep hits coming on the Virtual Console, while meanwhile I play my X-Box.

What is your opinion on "Filler"

I'm not too big an anime guy, and it's actually because I feel the stuff's plagued with this filler. I only appreciate 'filler' if it's not really filler at all- if I feel it expands on the characters or does something fun or new with them.

Since I'm not too familiar with ye olde anime, here are two cliche examples:

DBZ: Goku powering up!! Again!!
Cowboy Bebop: Spike teaches a (throw-away) guy a bit about fighting... who ends up getting shot because he's showing off.

In terms of other shows, yes, I am always kind of bummed when my favorite TV shows have 'filler' episodes rather than inching closer to resolving the story arc plots dangling over all the characters. But it isn't so bad if the filler is short-lived (maybe a few episodes... not a whole freaking story arc :o) and the main story is returned to shortly.

I go for the peaceful, zen background :D.

Acne

... so long as you don't get the new SUPER ACNE that is invading suburban schoolyards :o.

That stuff will combat your pesky antibiotics (and your ESUNAS).

As for me, my acne seems to go in swings and bounds, from getting bad for awhile to clearing up. Also, I'm not sure whether it's better to pop the suckers early or just let them grow ~naturally~.

North Korea is batshit insane.

Does anyone feel it's true that North Korea just tends to "act up a bit" whenever it feels like the rest of the world is ignoring it? I heard a news correspondent (okay, "commenter") give that analogy recently and pass this off as boring old news... but on the other hand, North Korea is batshit insane :-\.

Downloading Music Illegally

I love stealing music off the Internetz, yo :-[.

I consider myself a very ethical person, actually. My argument for why it's okay for my to download is pretty simple:

a) I have no money to buy the music, as I'm on college loans and too busy with classes for a real job, and no, my parents aren't loaded with the dollah dollah billz.
b) Listening to the music I download is good for me in multiple ways- it makes me feel creative, it helps me be productive, it makes me a more interesting (better) person, etc.
c) So, I should download the music, but not try to provide it to others unless they're in similar circumstances. If my circumstances change and I can afford the music, then I must delete my stolen music and buy it legally.

I already hate the idea of deleting all of my music when I start an actual career, but them's the breaks I guess.

I dislike it when others claim that downloading music illegally is simply stealing and is black-and-white wrong. I understand if someone wants to make an argument about the ethics of breaking the law or of taking a little bit of the music industry's money (since, if I wasn't downloading illegally, I could probably get a few albums a year), but I think that mine is a fair starting argument for why stealing the music may be considered okay.

Incidentally, I have to buy all my Christian music with dollars, either because all the Christians are too good for torrenting or the music is too fugly for most ears :D.

"stop that your being raceist"

Hahahaha, SO TRUE! It's fantastic that they're against racism, except for the spelling ;D.

And although I want to agree with Yellow Magic, sadly in my experience Magi's description is correct...
